28 December 1946

To an individual believer

Dear Bahá’í Sister:
Your letter (with copies of others enclosed) dated October 18th, has been received, and our beloved Guardian has instructed me to answer you on his behalf.
He fully realizes what a great shock you have sustained through the death of this son over whom your heart had yearned for so many years, especially under such tragic circumstances, and he assures you of his deep sympathy and his loving prayers for the progress and happiness of ... ’s soul....
Surely the way you can now be of the greatest help to your son’s soul is to serve the Cause and promote its interests. The Master has often pointed out that deeds we do for, or contributions we make to, the Cause of God in the name of a departed person, aid that person’s soul in the World Beyond. This is one of the mercies of God!
Before you and your dear mother-in-law make any definite plans for a Bahá’í summer school, he feels you should consult the Assembly. In this way you will be guided to do that which is best for the beloved Faith, and will be able to find a way of serving it in the memory of your son.
He hopes you will be able to not only help guide many young people and children into the Cause, but also to assist the parents to both embrace the Message and, through its teachings, bring their children up in the spirit of the New Day.
He assures you and Mr. ... of his loving prayers for you both, for the success of your Bahá’í work, and, especially, for ... ’s soul in the World Beyond.
